Reversed Boundary
MINSEOK KANG
The Reversed Boundary series begins with my act of flipping the canvas. By overturning the boundary between front and back—between what is visible and what is concealed—I try to see the relationship between outer reality and the inner self in a new way. Through this process I take apart the physical structure of painting and reveal the layers of emotion and consciousness that had gathered beneath its surface. Distorted lines, ruptured colors, and lingering traces symbolize the vibration of an unstable self. They show the inner movement of a person striving to confront themselves within the ever-shifting conditions of contemporary society. I reject stable order and perfect balance, and build a new visual structure out of fragmented memories and emotions. Reversed Boundary is not merely a painterly experiment; it is a philosophical record of asking again where the boundaries of existence lie and of turning my own inner self over to look at it.
